Givenchy III by Givenchy c1970

Givenchy III by Givenchy: launched in 1970. It was created to mark the opening of a prestigious store by this brand, on the location 3 Avenue George V, Paris.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is a modern green chypre fragrance for woman. It is described as a "musky, green bouquet, a sparkling, youthful perfume combining wisteria, Russian coriander and mandarin with oakmoss, musk and myrrh. This is a floral blend with green notes and base notes of amber, musk, woodsy and mossy tones.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, Russian coriander, bergamot, tangerine, mandarin, galbanum, peach and gardenia
  • Middle notes: wisteria, lily of the valley, hyacinth, Grasse rose, oriental rose, Grasse jasmine and iris root
  • Base notes: musk, myrrh, castoreum, patchouli, oakmoss, ambergris and Mysore sandalwood

Bottles:

The simple cube shaped bottle, with a hint of gold on its top, was designed by Pierre Dinand.

To open the classic Givenchy crystal parfum flacon, use the following tip provided by Parfums Givenchy in 1963:

This bottle has a thick, gripable top. The main thing is to cut off all paper and cord. The top will probably twist off easily - if not, tap lightly.

Givenchy III is available in all concentrations:
  • Parfum
  • Eau de Toilette
  • Eau de Parfum
  • Body Lotion
  • Body Wash
  • Deodorant

Fate of the Fragrance:

The original Givenchy III was discontinued and was subsequently brought back in a reformulated form in 2007 as part of Givenchy’s Les Mythiques collection. The reformulation was due the fact that they replaced one of the natural ingredients (oakmoss) in the original with a synthetic version. They stated this was the result of changes in European and International Fragrance Association (IFRA) norms. The perfume is close to the original but not quite "it".

From Givenchy:
"Rich with history, Givenchy III was the first widely distributed women's fragrance by Givenchy. It's name is the address of the Givenchy Couture House, located in the fashion and luxury district of Paris, on the prestigious Avenue George V. Givenchy III embodies the refined elegance of the Givenchy Haute Couture collections. Upon launch, Givenchy III set a benchmark for women's fragrance. Its design and concept has been coveted by women the world over and its sophisticated, modern scent makes it a must-have for every fragrance wardrobe."

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral chypre fragrance for women.
