The launch advertisement was of the model Eva Herzigova wearing an immaculate décolleté gown designed by Alexander McQueen who had become Givenchy’s chief designer in 1996.
Also to launch the fragrance, a copy of Eva’s tattoo in the form of a inch long "temporary tattoo" transfer was impregnated with the perfume was given away free with every bottle purchased. The "tattoo" in red and black and featured a bottle of the new perfume encircled by a ribbon labeled "Extravagance".. The fu tattoo would be easily removed with rubbing alcohol or baby oil. Limited supplies were available at Givenchy cosmetic counters in select department stores nationwide. These could also be found in the June 1998 issue of Seventeen magazine in a sealed packet attached to an ad.

In 2007, Givenchy released the Les Parfums Mythiques line and Extravagance d'Amarige was reintroduced. However, it is a reformulation.

Top notes are marigold and tangerine; middle notes are orange blossom and jasmine; base notes are amber and woodsy notes.
